What to expect...
Before the shoot, please feed baby 2-3 hours prior, and plan on feeding him/her as soon as you get here. Please try and not let baby sleep beforehand, instead try giving baby a bath, let them kick with only a diaper, tickle their toes, and even let baby fuss a little bit (no pacifiers) for the few hours beforehand. This will ensure those squishy, sleepy newborn pictures.
I can’t stress that it’s so important to do your best to keep baby awake. Most parents come in saying “baby has been sleeping all morning, but trust me, he sleeps SO good this time of day!” only to have baby wake up, since they will be unclothes and unsaddled! It will be at least 80 degrees in the studio. Due to this, I come dressed for a warm are hours and suggest you do too!
Sessions last between 2-3 hours, sometimes longer if baby is a light sleeper, or is hungry! The easiest way to ensure a sleepy baby is the willingness to nurse/bottlefeed off and on. If you can, bring a smoothie pacifier the hospital sent you hoe with. It’s the bendable, green/blue/orangish one, and won’t leave marks. Even if you haven’t used one, just for the 2 hours that I’m posing him/her usually really helps. If you don’t happen to have one, I keep unopened soothes here in the studio (as well as plenty of newborn diapers). However if you really prefer the we don’t use one, that’s fine as well. If nursing, avoid caffeine or switch to decaf the day before arriving. Bringing baby in a zip or snap up sleeper is perfect if you have one so that I can undress baby without waking them.

The studio offers comfy parent seating with complimentary wifi. We are always fully stocked with healthy snacks, cold water and coffee. Lots of coffee. Even the restroom is stocked with convenient products for mom!

Got older siblings? No problem! The studio offers a play area for your child and features toys, books, and entertainment for a variety of ages. There is a changing pad provided stocked with diapers and wipes as well as an adult size reclining rocking chair for nursing moms or whoever else likes the comfort of a rocker.

I base my schedule on your due date. Once baby arrives shoot me an email or call and we will get your session scheduled preferably within 4-9 days after birth so that I can ensure I have a spot for you on my calendar. Sessions are always held on a weekday and usually start around 9:00am. If you have any questions prior to the session I am available anytime via email at contact@barebabyphotography.com or by phone 614-361-0861.

Why hire a professional?

When you hire me as your professional photographer you are guaranteeing a level of expertise and talent that will ensure your precious baby is captured perfectly without worry. My entire portfolio of beautiful images have not only been achieved through the use of the best quality camera equipment but also through my experience. I have been in business for 7 yeas and have photographed hundreds of babies. I have taken many courses and workshops and I have spent many hours refining and perfecting my work. In addition I have worked privately one on one on more than on occasion with some of the most sought after newborn photographers in the world working with both natural and studio lighting.

Safety is my number 1 priority. I do not engage in any poses that y be uncomfortable for your baby and will only use poses that have been perfected in the safest way.

We are a boutique studio. What this means for you, our valued client, is that we've taken the time to create a specialized experience. We are not a high volume studio and we want to keep it that way. This allows for a more personalized attention. From the moment you walk in your comfort and happeniss are our number one priority.

I would absolutely encourage parents and siblings to be a part of the session. These little ones are only little for a short period of time and these images are always deeply cherished. I typically do these photos at the very beginning or very end of your newborn session, whichever works best for your family. It's very helpful to drive separately if you can so dad can take your little on home directly following their portraits or to bring them in at the very end of your portrait session. Young children do not tolerate the heat of the warm room and length of a newborn session well and often become a distraction in the studio. Please keep in mind that with very young children, although I will attempt sibling and family poses, THIS is not the focus of a newborn session. Young children can sometimes not be encouraged to do something such as hold or be near their very young sibling in a manner that is safe for their tiny sibling at this time and state, as this is all very new to them. Please do not set expectations high for young children as they often have difficulty following direction and can be quiet uncertain yet at this big change in their life with a new sibling joining their family. There are some sessions involving young siblings where sibling and full family portraits are not successful, even though best effort is given. These portraits will be attempted for up to a max 30 minutes of your session time. At which point if we find it is just not working, we will call it a day with parent and new baby portraits only, and move on to the sole newborn portrait portion of your session for best results of your newborn portraits. Please be aware that your photographer is not responsible for the non-cooperation of any subjects being photographed and any missed images resulting, if this were to occur.

What to wear

I am a huge fan of neutrals, and thus encourage all of my families to wear neutral colors. For dad jeans and a teeshirt are perfect. I love warm colors, either white, brown, or gray are perfect. A loose fitted dress is perfect for mom. I do like skin to skin contact so preferably something sleeveless but short sleeves are also fine. For sibling boys, jeans and a teeshirt are perfect (same colors as dad) and for sibling girls a dress is my first choice (same as mom).
